I was chatting with donna over the MSN yesterday and she pop me up with this qs "why do you work hard in life for?" A 14 year old girl who thinks that life is hopeless and has no meaning to it. I actually took a step back and ask myself before I sleep.
Primary School
- Age 7 to 12
- Didn't even bother to think so much.
- Join Table Tennis and go around schools for competition. Win some lose some.
Secondary School
- Age 13 to 16
- Get to "realize" what is $
- Always feel that my allowance given is not enough. Vow to earn more $ by myself. (1st time)
- Got a job as an Event Planner after my 'O' Level. Earn a lot of $ but spend a lot as well.
Poly
- Age 17 to 19
- Totally switch off in my academic but still aim for B as my minimum result (2nd time)
- Effort pay off. Poly results all "kelong". Ha
- Work as a part-time room service waiter.
NS
- Age 20 to 22+
- Trying real hard to downgrade myself. (3rd time)
- Lucky thing is that I fail. At least I do enjoy my army life a lot.
Work
- Age 23 till now
- Step into society with 5 years of working experience till now.
- Got downgraded when I need to go for my RT.
Well, seems to me that my effort got pay off in one way or another. When human enter a new stage of life, there are new goals that will keep us going in life. In reality, when we using chain of thought, right at the very bottom, result = death. On the counterpart, we should ask these qs instead.
- Am I doing the right thing?
- Is it beneficial to me and everyone?
- Is it meaningful?
End result may not be what you expected. However, you know you have tried your best and I bet you will enjoy the process stage with those memories that stored inside.

Went to watch $ Not Enough 2 yesterday with one of my friend since I last contact for more then 2 years. It is a good show in general and I would rate his movie a 9/10. Jack has make a breakthrough in this movie. He created sadness and worth "some people" to think about respecting our parents. My friend actually cried near the last scene where the grandmother save her grand daughter. OMG~!!!

Hungry Ghost Festival
According to the Chinese or Buddhist folklore, Mu Lian or Bok Lean was a filial son. He lived and took care of his widowed mother. One day he told his mother his intention to be a monk.
His mother wasn't happy with the decision as that will leave her being alone. Despite mum pleading, he went on to do his spiritual training leaving his mum by herself.
Years went by before he finished his training. He got home to find that his mum had passed on. Feeling so sad that he had not done enough for his mum, he meditated hoping to see how his mother was doing. He saw his mother in the deepest hell, hungry and in deep terrible training.
He realized that his mother had done deeds which were not good when she was alive and that account for her doing horrible training. His mother begged him for food as she was so hungry even in hell; one cannot steal food as the punishment will be another few hundred years. The mother has not being taking food as no one offered or pray to her when she died. As he fed her water and food, none reaches her mouth; all were turn into fire or blood.
Anyway, he was so sad and seeks advice from his master how he could save his mother. He told the master that his mother is in the deepest or lowest part of hell. Based on that, he was advised to feed or served thousands of people on earth before his mum could be save or have the opportunity to eat. He did as advised and his mother was able to receive the food given as an offering to her.
But it was not enough to get her out of deeper hell. For one of the most wicked things his mother did was offer dog meat to vegetarian monk when she was alive. His master then advised him now go vegetarian and perform his spiritual training cleaning temples and holy places.
After years of performing this spiritual training was Mu Lian able to rescue his mum from the deepest hell. On the Chinese lunar 15th day, seventh month marked the day he was able to save his mother from hell. His mother was no longer a hungry ghost, and was able to do lighter training due to the son compensating for her.
Reports of his good meritorious deed reached Buddha and he too was touched by Mu Lian's compassion. Thus Buddha decreed that once a year, the gates of hell is opened so that the lost souls will be able to roam the earth and be fed.
Till this day, Mu Lian lives in our memory for saving his mother and the entire hungry ghost. Hungry Ghost Festival is considered one of the most important festivals for the Chinese in Singapore.

Dreams
Everyone has a dream, a dream that keeps everyone moving on. Every now and then along your journey, just sit down and take into account what you’ve done so far. You’ll be surprised at how far along you’ve come. You will have picked up a rich cornucopia of knowledge, contacts, skills, opportunities to test your resolve, experiences of triumphing over obstacles, etc., that you never would have got before had you not undertaken this journey of yours. Make no doubt about it though, mistakes will be made along the journey. You might fall into heavy debt if you were trying to start your own business, you might go bankrupt, you might get rejected hundreds of times, people will mock and ridicule you, but that’s all part of the process. All of this is meant for two things. To separate those who really want it from those who don’t and to see if you learn from the lessons that are hidden within each mistake.
Every experience along your journey is meant to teach you something to propel you forward. Each time you feel depressed, it’s a sign to remind yourself of why you’re doing what you’re doing, to further reinforce the drive in you that keeps you going. Each time you encounter an obstacle, it’s a test to see how bad you want it and how smart you are in figuring out what to learn from it. Each time you are ridiculed from friends and family for following your dream, it’s a test to see how firm your foundation is and it presents another opportunity to fortify it even further.
If you focus too much on getting to the end goal, you’ll misinterpret all the things that happen along your journey. You’ll become frustrated because the end goal you so desperately want to achieve is not coming as quickly as you would like it to. Step back, breathe and realize that everything is part of the journey. Appreciate it. Be thankful for it. The mistakes, the setbacks, the small victories, the lessons learned, the new people you meet, the new knowledge you’ve gained, but most importantly of all, appreciate the fact that you found the courage to start and advance toward the direction of your dream. You’ve chosen the path that few take, the path of living YOUR dreams, not the ones that others have laid before you.
Appreciating the journey is a powerful frame to keep you going. It implies a beginning, middle, and end. You’ve already started and now you’re just in the middle and the end is inevitable. Keeping in mind our journey constantly reminds and encourages us that we we will get there.
Appreciate the journey because it is teaching you everything you need in order to get to your end destination. Don’t get discouraged because you equate your achievement with the attainment of your goal. You are already achieving. If you take stock as to what you’ve learned and accomplished so far, you’ll realize that you’ve underestimated yourself, that the limits you imposed only exist in your mind, and that you are truly making progress. Nothing breeds progress like progress.
The longer you stay on the journey, the wiser, the stronger, and the more determined you will become.
Then when you accomplish your dream, when you make it a reality, you will come to realize one thing and that is: the journey has truly SERVED YOU.
